Speaking at Facebook

Just a quick update from Toronto, Canada where I’m currently on promotion tour for “The Gold Mine Effect”. In addition to being on Canada AM this morning I also visited Facebook to give a talk about spotting and growing talent. It led to a great conversation about “talent archeology” and why many companies don’t know enough about their high performers. Companies tend to hire people with the right certificate graduating from the right university, but they don’t realise that the best people in the company didn’t come in that way. My point is that it is really crucial to understand your top performers, not only who they are, but where they came from and what their stories are. If you do this work carefully, you’ll start seeing patterns that will help you to improve your hit rate!
